How do the Jazz finish the season? 4-2? 5-1? 6-0 (gasp!)?

// April 1st, 2010 // No Comments » // Jazz Schedule

The Jazz have 6 games left this season.  Their record currently sits at 50-26 which is good enough for the 2 seed if they playoffs started today.

Last year the Jazz finished 48-34 after losing 8 of their last 12 games.  It was…disappointing to say the least.  The Jazz had the possibility of snagging the 2 seed before the end of the season but limped into the playoffs as the 8 seed.  It was quite the turnaround to finish the season.

This year the Jazz have an opportunity to finish so much better than last year.  The Jazz had their most difficult sections of their schedule in the previous months and were finally gifted an easy end to the season.

So…how will they fare?  Many, who remember last year, fear a meltdown in these last 6 games.

Only 2 games separate the 2 and 5 seed so if the Jazz let up they could easily fall to 5 and lose homecourt advantage.

Their remaining opponents are, in order, the Lakers, Thunder, Rockets, Hornets, Warriors, and Suns.

On the surface, it seems that 2 losses seems pretty reasonable w/ the losses going to the Lakers and either the Suns or Thunder.

Is 4-2 good enough to snag 2nd place in the Western Conference?

Is 5-1 a good possibility?  Is 6-0 out of the question?

With how little separates us from the rest of the pack in the Western Conference every loss hurts…a lot.

The Mavericks finish the season playing Orlando, OKC, Memphis, Portland, Sacramento, LAC, & San Antonio.  That’s a tougher schedule w/ only Sac and the Clippers being the easy wins.  The Mavs barely beat Memphis last night in overtime & they face 3 opponents bound for the playoffs out of their remaining 6.

The Nuggets close facing Portland, LAC, OKC, LAL, San Antonio, Memphis, & Phoenix for a total of 7 games left and 5 against playoff teams.  That’s a tough schedule and the Nuggets have lost 5 of their last 6.

Phoenix has quietly won 9 in a row and even though only 2 of those wins have come against playoff teams the Suns have a lot of momentum.  Their remaining 7 opponents are Detroit, Milwaukee, San Antonio, OKC, Houston, Denver, & Utah.  Only 1 of those is a gimme (Detroit), and 5 of the 7 are against playoff teams.

If ever this was an opportunity for the Jazz to make up some ground and take sole command of #2 in the West and #1 in the NorthWest Division…it’s now.  Let’s just hope that that last game against Phoenix isn’t a make or break game for positioning.  Let us now pray to the basketball gods that we go 6-0…
