Jazz win 5th in a row against the Sacramento Kings! 1/29/10

I never thought I’d get so excited about a victory against the Sacramento Kings but tonight’s victory meant a lot of things.  It avenged a home loss the Kings delivered to us in early November.  Ps, the Kings have only won 3 games on the road…one the the Jazz *sigh*.  It also marked the 5th victory in a row for the Jazz…the first time we’ve done that all season.  It was also a victory without Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer which is important.

Props go to Paul Millsap on this game.  He stepped up in a big way to fill the starting spot left by Boozer.  By the way, Boozer has a sprained calf muscle and could be out 10 days?  That could hurt us…Anyways, Millsap tied his career high with 32 points, grabbed 14 rebounds including 5 offensive boards, dished 7 assists and only committed 2 turnovers.  Heck yeah!  Those are killer numbers…not that we don’t think he’s capable of that because we saw last year that he is.  This year as he’s been coming off the bench we have seen something that was also evident last year.  Not only does Millsap play better while starting, he does so more efficiently.  His scoring, rebounding and percentages per 40 minutes are noticeably better when he starts.  He has not complained about coming off the bench because that’s been his role this year but he’s making a case for being an effective starter with games like tonight.

Sundiata Gaines finally got respectable playing time this game and performed fairly well.  He finished the game as the PG and while he only shot 38%, he still put in 12 points, dished 5 assists w/ no turnovers.  For a rookie point guard, those are great numbers.  I’m happy with those all day long.  Nice win tonight Jazz…let’s keep it up.
