Jazz roll over short-handed Hornets – 4/9/10

It was crazy to watch the Deron Williams of this game and the Oklahoma City game, and contrast him with the Deron Williams we saw against the Houston Rockets.  Williams was honest after the Rockets saying that he didn’t have a lot of energy which was evident by his low output and 7 turnovers.

The Deron Williams of this game was a much different one.  Watching him pick apart the New Orleans offense was exciting…to say the least.  He finished with 27 points on 56% from the field, 16 assists, 8 – 8 from the FT line, 4 steals, and 4 rebounds.

The Hornets were playing short-handed once again missing Chris Paul and Peja Stojakovic.  It’s too bad because the Chris Paul vs Deron Williams matchup is always fun.  However, I think the Deron Williams/Russel Westbrook is a better matchup.

Kyle Korver had an off game but for some reason I’m less critical of Korver when he’s not shooting well as opposed to Boozer, Miles, Memo, or anyone else for that matter.  I suppose it could be that Korver rarely takes a “bad shot.”  Meaning, he rarely takes contested shots and since he can’t create a shot he never tries to penetrate and force a jumpshot.

If Korver takes a shot it most likely means that he had an open look and if you have an open look you should take it 90% of the time.  Considering that he’s shot well this entire year it’s hard to fault him for having an off night.  Maybe I should be as harsh on him as I am on CJ Miles.

Sadly, from this point, even if the Jazz win their last 2 games, getting the #2 seed is not likely since we are behind the Nuggets can still lose another game and seal the #2 spot.  Let’s just all pray that the Jazz don’t fall to the 4 or 5 seed which means they would face the Lakers in the 2nd round.  The Lakers have lost 4 of their last 5 games.  Their only win?  Against the Jazz
