Boozer leads Jazz to victory over the Charlotte Bobcats – 2/24/10
// February 25th, 2010 // Game Summary
The Charlotte Bobcats had no answer inside for Carlos Boozer losing 102-93 to the Jazz. Thank heavens because the Jazz had no answer for Gerald Wallace or, in part, Stephen Jackson. With Andrei Kirilenko missing his 2nd game because of back problems we had to throw the likes of CJ Miles, Kyle Korver, Paul Millsap, and Wesley Matthews in to defend those 2. I was actually impressed with Korver’s defense. For someone who is not really known for being a great defender and for having bad footwork, his D on Wallace down the stretch was admirable. He was also 5 of 6 from downtown and finished with 18 points. That’s the Korver we’ve wanted
The Jazz got dominated in the first half. The offense went particularly downhill when Deron Williams left the game and Ronnie Price stepped in to run the offense. How to perform that task has often eluded Price as he seems to rarely take advantage of ball screens or find an open man. DWill came back after missing a game after being kneed in the quad and play a game-high 41 minutes. It seems sad he had to play that many but I fear that if Sloan had taken him out in the 3rd or 4th quarter our momentum would have been lost.
In the 2nd half the Jazz realized that going inside to Boozer was the right plan and we took off w/ Booze scoring 14 of his 33 points in the 3rd. In fact, Charlotte only scored 16 points in the 3rd; Boozer was close to outscoring their entire team that quarter. He finished having made 13 of his 16 field goal attempts, 33 points, and 16 rebounds. He had 3 3-point plays with fouls as well. I’m liking this Boozer…who is also helping me forget last year’s Boozer.
And then there is CJ Miles…my favorite Jazzman…by far. His 1 for 10 from the floor should illustrate why. It all started out in the pre-game warm-ups where I watched him juke a couple times to take the ball up to the basket for a layup/jam and he lost the ball. There was no one guarding him at the time. It reminded me of a point in the 3rd quarter (I think) where he fell over near the 3 point line for no apparent reason and turned the ball over. Good times! His 1 for 10 shooting was pretty awesome as well as his 4 fouls in only 30 minutes of play.
Memo wasn’t much better going 3 for 10 from the floor and finished with only 9 points and 9 rebounds. I miss the Memo from last year.
Williams managed a good shooting performance after being terrible in most of the last 10 games. He finished just under .500 from the floor going 8 for 17 and 2 for 5 from 3 point land. He dished out 12 assists and seemed to have some swagger. Hopefully, he keeps it up.
The Jazz have won 18 of their last 21 games with the only losses to the Lakers, Hawks, and Nuggets…all quality teams. I can live with that.
